Washington Waithaka is a highly experienced finance professional with significant and diverse international management experience, gained at leading global organizations. Washington is passionate about enabling organizations to make good evidence-based decisions that meet the expectations of their key stakeholders. Importantly, Washington has a penchant for developing the capabilities of people in the organizations in which he works and the communities in which he lives.
Washington was born in Kenya and as a CPA(K), he led a range of audit and advisory assignments in the public and non-governmental sectors around Eastern Africa focused on education, infrastructure development, equality, and civil rights as well as economic empowerment. More recently he has been involved in exploring technologies that can be deployed to improve the cost efficiency, timeliness, and security of remittances into Africa, as well as intra-Africa payments. Having benefited immensely from the education afforded to him, he is keen to contribute to the development and expansion of educational opportunities in Africa.
Washington joins the Board as Treasurer of EFAI and will apply his financial management expertise in the effective management of the organisation’s financial resources. In addition to EFAI, Washington is a Trustee of Oasis Community Housing, a UK charity that seeks to tackle homelessness and the causes of homelessness.
